As a freshman studying global health at the University of Iowa, Taylor developed an intellectual curiosity in medical practices that sparked her research with a particular focus on wanting to help developing countries due to the high volume of patients who unfortunately die because of sepsis when an infection is found too late. Her patent surgical sutures are created to change color when introduced to an offsetting PH level of the affected area and alert medical practitioners that an infection is present.
